The Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MFA) said two Macedonian students have been injured in the massive earthquake that hit Turkey on Monday. One of the students has a fracture, and the other one has suffered minor injuries.
Nine Macedonian nationals, including eight students and their mentor, are staying in southeastern Turkey, where the powerful earthquake was registered on Monday morning, as part of the Erasmus+ programme. According to the MFA, they are currently safe.
The Foreign Ministry adds that so far there’s no information about other Macedonian nationals in distress or in need for assistance.
“Our diplomatic and consular missions remain in constant communication both with the competent institutions in Turkey and with our citizens who need information and are informed about the situation on the ground. Upon MFA orders, a diplomat from the Embassy in Ankara has been sent to the region to help evacuate students from the city of Kahramanmaraş, as well as to provide information on the ground on possible further interventions,” MFA said.
